Detroit has been selected as the first city in a planned national expansion of the 20-year-old Figure Skating in Harlem program model, the only organization in the world for girls of color that combines the life-transforming power of education with access to the artistic discipline of figure skating.

OUR STORY

Detroit is on a quintessential comeback and it is a great time to launch an exciting new opportunity for girls ages 6 – 15. After two decades of accolades, Figure Skating in Harlem is expanding to the Motor City, bringing its first-class leadership and academic focused programs, wrapped around the discipline and physical rigors of skating.

Michigan Women’ Foundation has signed on as strategic leadership and education partner, providing Figure Skating in Detroit a home in its downtown offices. Coursework in STEM, entrepreneurship, self-esteem and health, along with mentorship on and off the ice, will prepare the city’s young women for success in all areas of life.

Figure Skating in Detroit promises to deliver unprecedented opportunities … and a great deal of fun … to those interested in participating in the inaugural year.

Private sector support will be sought to ensure that every girl can build a limitless foundation on ice!

Figure Skating in Detroit helps girls transform their lives and grow in confidence, leadership and academic achievement. We are the only organization for girls of color that combines the power of education with access to the artistic discipline of figure skating to build champions in life.
