Over 100 girls from the Detroit area attended Figure Skating In Detroit’s Community Workshops held at the Adams Butzel Recreation Complex in February, March, & April. Through each session the girls were engaged in leadership activities, an on ice experience, and a Q&A session with 2014 Olympic Champion, Meryl Davis and international competitive ice dancer, Alissandra Aronow. “To see the girls actually on the ice having fun is such a good feeling,” said Meryl as she watched girls from ages 6-15 enjoy themselves while learning a new and unique sport.

“Being able to have an opportunity to ice skate and have all these amazing women come out and spend their time to teach younger girls was my favorite part,” said 14-year-old Layla Hudson who attended the community workshop in February.

The introductory workshops are meant to give girls and their families a taste of what the full-year after-school program is like . Figure Skating In Detroit will also be offering a summer day camp program for girls throughout the metro Detroit area starting July 31-August 4.
